We would like to invite you to join us for a literary evening, which would take place in Dom
Literatury in Łódź, on the 5 th of July 2023, at 7.00 p.m. with Theo Dorgan, poet, writer, sailor
and member of Aosdán, Ireland's Academy of the Arts, is the guest speaker. Theo Dorgan's
visit is co-organised by the Polish Society for Irish Studies, with support from the Irish
Government under the Irish Studies Programme.
The event is organized as a part of Borders and Crossings: An Interdisciplinary Conference
on Travel Writing, at the University of Lodz, Faculty of Philology, 5-7 July 2023.
Borders and Crossings 2023 is part of a long-running series of international conferences
devoted to the interdisciplinary study of travel writing. This year’s event is held at the
University of Lodz and is organised by dr hab. Joanna Kruczkowska (Associate Professor at
the University of Lodz) and Ross Cameron (University of Glasgow). The Borders and
Crossings conference series was first organised in Derry in 1998 by Glenn Hooper and Tim
Youngs and has since taken place on a regular basis. Borders and Crossings has played
a significant role in the development of travel writing studies as it provides a forum for
scientists across various disciplines and from a wide variety of national contexts to meet
regularly, explore an increasingly rich corpus of travel writing from across a wide range of
periods, and debate its importance to the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
